With a procedure as sturdy and permanent as a dental implant, patients often wonder: will it hurt? The remarkable thing about implants is not only how natural and reliable the finished product is, but how comfortable you’re guaranteed to be during the procedure! In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at the procedure to put you at ease before you get your first dental implant.

What Is a Dental Implant?

In order to understand the dental implant procedure, it’s important to first grasp what a dental implant is! A dental implant is a life changing little piece of dental hardware. The implant itself is a titanium post that is inserted into the jaw much like a screw into wood. Because of that, the implant provides an incredibly sturdy base for the custom-made restoration.

The Implant Process

So after hearing how the implant works, you’re probably thinking it sounds painful. Well, you’d be wrong. Dental implants have become so popular that the procedure has become routine. The implant process kicks off with a consultation and any necessary extractions. If an extraction is needed, we’ll first wait for that to heal. From there, you’ll be ready for your implant. Then, you’ll either be numbed or if you prefer, we’ll give you a sedative. We work with you to make sure you’re completely comfortable during the procedure. Once you’re ready, our team will go ahead and place the implant. After that, you’ll take some time to heal. A little bit of soreness is to be expected, but nothing that over-the-counter pain relief shouldn’t fix. Once the implant has healed, we’ll have you back to place your custom restoration.
