We know you do your part to take care of your health and the health of your family. If you’re like us, you also do your part to take care of the health of our planet. It can seem like a daunting task, but small changes to your lifestyle can make a world of difference in helping protect our environment. We can even help the earth by making a few adjustments to our dental routine. Here are a few tips on how you can help keep teeth and the environment healthy at the same time.
Always Turn Off Water
Water is a precious natural resource that we’re very fortunate to have access to. In the United States, we tend to take clean drinking water for granted. We need to remind ourselves to conserve whenever possible. One very easy adjustment to save water is to simply turn off running water when you brush your teeth. Use the faucet only when rinsing the toothbrush and your mouth. Be sure to teach your children to do the same! This will make future environment-friendly generations with healthy teeth.
Use Earth-Friendly Tools
When choosing a toothbrush, you have many choices. Some are even helpful in reducing waste and landfill. Using an electric toothbrush, rather than a traditional plastic toothbrush, is better for the environment for this reason. You can also buy a toothbrush made from recycled or compostable materials.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Check your local waste management program to see if you can recycle your toothbrush. If you’re not able to recycle it as is, you can repurpose your old toothbrush in a variety of ways. It makes a perfect cleaning tool for small, grimy spaces in your bathroom or kitchen. You can also use it to polish jewelry. One of our favorite ways to reuse old toothbrushes is as a paintbrush for kids’ crafting.
Choose an Environmentally-Conscious Dentist
We take great pride in our consideration of our patients and the environment at Edgewater Dental Arts. We reduce our consumption of water and electricity at our office whenever possible. We recycle materials whenever possible. We are constantly looking for ways to make the patient experience more convenient, comfortable, and conscious whenever possible.
Please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions about how we can team up and create a more sustainable lifestyle! We want you to have the tools to take care of your family and the earth! We hope to see you soon.
