Do you wish your teeth were straighter? It used to be that if you wanted straighter teeth, you would need metal braces. Clear aligner therapy changed that! With a treatment like Invisalign, you can straighten your teeth with a more comfortable and convenient method. How does it work? Are you a good candidate?
How Invisalign Works
Invisalign consists of a series of clear plastic aligners. They’re essentially invisible and removable. Most people will need to wear them at least 22 hours a day. When you’re eating, brushing, or flossing, you remove the aligners. Every two weeks or so, you’ll switch to the next set in the aligners as your teeth move into a straight position.
Are You a Good Candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign treats issues like gaps, bite misalignment, and overcrowding. For problems like severe overbites or gaps, Invisalign isn’t typically recommended. In these cases, metal braces will likely work better. If you aren’t sure if your case is mild, moderate, or serious, come in for a consultation! We recommend Invisalign on a case-by-case basis.
How Long Does Invisalign Take?
On average, Invisalign dental treatment takes between 12-18 months, which is shorter than treatment with metal braces. If you aren’t diligent about wearing your aligners or your case is more complicated, the process can take longer. After Invisalign, you’ll be given a retainer to ensure your teeth don’t start shifting again.
How Much Maintenance Is Required?
When you have Invisalign, it’s easier to clean your teeth compared to braces, so there’s less maintenance in that regard. You do need to clean your aligners every day, switch to the next set when it’s time, and wear the aligners for the number of hours we prescribe. For check-ups, you’ll visit our team every six weeks or so.
