If you’ve lost teeth, you know how much your life can change. The loss of even just one tooth changes your bite, what you can eat, and your appearance. If you want to replace missing teeth and restore your smile, you have a handful of options. Dental implants are popular these days. What about their mini version? Are they a permanent tooth replacement?

What Are Mini Dental Implants?

Dental implants consist of a biocompatible post and tooth replacement. The post is placed into your jaw, where it fuses to the bone. Once you’re healed, we put the tooth replacement (often a crown) on top of the post. As the name implies, mini implants are smaller than regular dental implants. They are often used to secure a loose or poorly-fitted denture.

Benefits of Mini Implants

Mini implants have many benefits. The process is less invasive – there’s no cutting or sutures – and patients tend to heal faster. You can enjoy your new tooth/teeth right away! Mini implants are also more affordable. They are a great option if your jawbone can’t support a full implant. Like regular implants, mini implants are permanent.

Caring for Mini Implants

To take care of your mini implants, simply clean them like your natural teeth. Brush and floss daily and visit Edgewater Dental Arts at least every six months for cleanings and exams. When cared for properly, mini implants last for many years.
