The secret to a perfect smile? It may be as simple as preventative dentistry. If you commit to taking great care of your teeth, you’ll have much better luck with your oral health in the long run than you otherwise would. To learn more about preventative techniques and how they’ll benefit you, keep reading!

Routine Cleaning & Exam

One of the most important parts of great oral care is your biannual dental cleaning and exam. You should be visiting the office every six months for deep cleaning from a trained hygienist and a comprehensive exam from the dentist. The cleaning gives our staff the chance to get at some of the deep-seated plaque that’s hard to remove with at-home care, and would otherwise cause cavities. The exam gives us an opportunity to examine the smile and take x-rays, allowing us to spot and address any issues before they have a chance to develop further.

At-Home Care

The other key aspect of preventative care is just as important, and that’s at-home care! We can’t stress enough how much the main components of a good dental routine matter to long term dental health. Regular and thorough at-home care, paired with a healthy diet of low-sugar and low-starch foods, will give you a fighting chance at avoiding cavities and gum disease. Make sure you’re brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and using dentist recommended products. Look for the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance—a handy way to know that a product is effective, and safe too!
