December is here, which means Christmas and New Year’s Eve are right around the corner. The Edgewater Dental Arts team hopes that you’re enjoying all the festivities with your family! As part of your effort to make sure the end of 2019 ends on a good note, we want to remind you to use your dental benefits before 2020 arrives. Many with dental insurance will be facing a “use-it-or-lose-it” situation, and we don’t want you to be on the “lose it” part of that equation. Here’s what you need to know:
No Rollover of Dental Benefits
Most dental plans don’t let benefits rollover. That means that any unused coverage you have will be gone after December 31. Essentially, that’s throwing away money you’ve already earned! If you can’t remember how much of your FSA balance you have left or how much is left of your yearly maximum, we recommend getting in touch with your insurance company to double-check. You may think you’ve used up everything but actually have some funds left to go toward your dental care!
Restart of Deductible
With insurance, you’ll have to pay a certain amount for your deductible before your insurance kicks in and starts covering your treatments. When the new year comes, that deductible restarts, which means you’ll have to once again pay a certain amount out of your own pocket before you can get your services covered. If you’ve already paid your deductible for the year and need a certain procedure done like root canal therapy or wisdom teeth extraction, you shouldn’t wait until next year to get it. Otherwise, it just ends up coming at a higher cost to you.
